HOW IT ALL STARTED
It began in 1965, when our founder Bertil Hult left his native Sweden to work in London.
After only a few months in England, he found himself speaking fluent English.
It made him realize the power of ‘learning by doing’ and inspired him to revolutionize the way
language is taught. He founded Education First with the single driving mission “opening the world through education.”
The rest, as they say, is history.
Today, we operate 500 schools and offices in more than 50 countries and our network includes over
40,000 employees, teachers and leaders.
Having spent fifty years defining and redefining the language learning industry, we have a comprehensive history of firsts.
We launched the world’s first multimedia language training in collaboration with Apple Computer.
Today, we run the world’s most advanced cloud-based language learning environment.
We were the first to offer 24-hour online access to teachers with online conversation classes held
every hour, on the hour, all year long – and we still do.
We were the first to pioneer the idea of language acquisition research and today we have
research centers Shanghai, Zurich and Cambridge University in England.
As proud as we are of our history of firsts, we’re devoted to breaking new barriers
and setting new standards for language learning so companies like yours can grow.
