How much does an English course cost?

The average cost of an English course for adults in the US is $15 per hour, but it will vary greatly depending on where you’re located and what type of course you’re looking at. You can probably save money by buying more than 50 hours upfront. Children’s English courses cost less on average, but they usually require a commitment of at least 1 trimester. Private English courses for adults are usually 50% to 100% more expensive, but again, buying a bundle of lessons upfront can lower the price. Specialized English courses (test preparation, university preparation, English for Specific Purposes, etc.) are generally more expensive than general English courses.

Online English courses are much cheaper. Those that only include self-study (no teacher) may even be free. Our online English courses with 20 hours of teacher-led instruction per month cost less than $3 per hour, and those with private lessons are under $4 per hour.

Our English courses in the US are all relatively intensive courses that include a minimum of 3 hours of instruction a day, accomodation and a meal plan, course books, and activities after class. The most important thing when comparing prices between English courses is to try and compare like with like. Make sure to check what’s included in each course, how many hours of class you’ll have, and how many other students will be in your class. These are the main factors that influence overall price.
