Celebrating International Women’s Day by Spotlighting Female Travelers – Meet Tarah

EF is celebrating International Woman’s Day by spotlighting some of our favorite female travelers. Say hello to Tarah!

What is your favorite solo travel destination?

Southern France. The smells are beautiful, the colors are beautiful – everything is beautiful! The small towns and markets are so vibrant, you almost forget you’re alone and that you don’t just belong there drinking an espresso at a cafe.

Why did you decide to travel on your own?

I tend to always prefer solo traveling. You’re not responsible for anyone else. You have the freedom to change your mind at any given moment. You never really know what you’re going to get or who you’re going to meet!

What are the benefits of solo travel?

By traveling solo, you force yourself to open up to your location. You will be forced out of your comfort zone as you won’t have a familiar face to hide behind. You could end up making friends for life just because you were open to chatting with a stranger.

What advice do you have for other woman looking to travel on their own?

While you do need to have your guard up, be willing to take chances. Be willing to change your plans for an adventure. Listen to someone’s story. Stay in a hostel with other people. By the end of your stay, you may not even be a solo traveler anymore.

International Woman’s day is Thursday, March 8th. Learn more at internationalwomensday.com.
